Last Night’s Look Back 11/10

Princeton 57 Buffalo 53: Ian Hummer and Will Barrett combined for 31 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists to help Princeton hold off Buffalo 57-53 despite Javon McCrea’s 22 points and eight rebounds.

#22 Notre Dame 58 Evansville 49: Jack Cooley scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Scott Martin was a human bottle of Windex swiping 17 rebounds in the Irish’s 58-49 win over Evansville.  Colt Ryan had 15 points, 13 of which came in the 2nd half and Ryan Sawvell had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Purple Aces in the loss.

Butler 74 Elon 59: Rotnei Clarke poured in 21 points in his Butler debut and Khyle Marshall added 14 as the Bulldogs beat Elon soundly 74-59.  Ryley Beaumont and Austin Hamilton each had 13 for the Phoenix in a losing effort.

Providence 64 NJIT 63: Bryce Cotton made 1 of 2 free throws with 5 seconds left to help the Providence Friars escape the upset bid of New Jersey Institute of Technology.  Cotton had 21 points and LeDontae Henton added a team-high 24 for the victors.  The win spoiled a 28-point effort from Chris Flores and 19 more from Ryan Woods.

Ohio 81 Portland 52:  The two teams were tied at 33 after 20 minutes, and then they came out for the 2nd half.  The Bobcats held Portland to 19 2nd half points including a stretch where the Pilots made just 3 field goals in the first 11 minutes of the half.  Nick Kellogg and D.J. Cooper each scored 18 points to help Ohio pull away. Ryan Nicholas had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench to lead Portland.

Green Bay 72 Chicago State 67: Green Bay could not shake Chicago State all day but thanks  to 31 points from Keifer Sykes who went 17-19 from the charity stripe.    Jeremy Robinson led the Cougars with 17 points and 10 boards in the unsuccessful upset bid.

Youngstown State 80 George Washington 73: Blake Allen and Bobby Hain each scored 19 points  leading five Penguins in double figures in an 80-73 win over George Washington.

Citadel 84 VMI 76: Mike Groselle had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs in a victory over VMI.

#15 Missouri  83 SIU-Edwardsville 69 : In his first game in over a year Laurence Bowers scored a team high  20 points, Phil Pressey added 19 and Alex Oriakhi grabbed 14 rebounds in his first game with the Tigers en route to an 83-69 win over the feisty SIU-Edwardsville Cougars.

Sacred Heart 85 Yale 82 OT: Sacred Heart trailed by 16 at the half and by 22 with less than 14 minutes to play.  Then the Pioneers went on a 37-15 to force overtime. In OT Steve Glowiak made 2 free throws to seal an improbable comeback.  Pioneer star Shane Gibson, who had five points at halftime finished with a team high 29 points.  The win ruined the effort of Yale’s Austin Morgan who knocked down six 3-pointers and ended up with 28.

Central Florida 74 South Florida 56: Isaiah Sykes and Keith Clanton both registered double doubles to lead the Knights to a 74-56 win over South Florida.  Sykes finished with 26 points , 11 rebounds and eight assists and Clanton who could have transferred after the Knights were banned from post-season play added 16 points and 16 rebounds.

St. Thomas (TX) 72 Rice 59: The NAIA Celts put a good beating on Rice, not exactly getting off on the right foot for the Owls.
