Game 9: Xavier uses 2nd Half Run to Surge Past Butler

13 Nov

In a game that matched up future Atlantic 10 opponents, Xavier used its athleticism and hot shooting to dispatch Butler 62-57.  The Muskateer forwards Jeff Robinson, Travis Taylor and Justin Martin were the big difference in the game combining for 42 points and 20 of the team’s 29 rebounds.

Xavier put the game out of reach with a 16-6 run over the first 12 minutes of the 2nd half that saw Butler go 2-17 from the field.  Hometown freshman Semaj Christon was a catalyst on the offensive end dishing out a team-high eight assists.

On the defensive end of the floor Xavier held Butler sharpshooter Rotnei Clarke to just seven points on 3 for 11 shooting in 37 minutes.  Clarke struggled to get open looks against the quickness of the Xavier guards.  Freshman Kellen Dunham led the team with 11 points in the loss.
