Iowa State let Georgia State hang around for the first half and then came out of the locker room making a statement. After leading 35-29 at the half the Cyclones started the 2nd half on a 21-11 run to push their lead to 16 and never looked back on their way to an 81-58 win.
Iowa State had all five starters in double figures, led by their 3-guard attack of Naz Long, Monte Morris and Bryce Dejean-Jones who combined for 51 points. Georges Niang added 10 points and 11 rebounds and Dustin Hogue chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Cyclones who led the nation last year in assist-to-turnover ratio had 23 assists on 29 baskets while committing just 11 turnovers.
Georgia State who fell in the Sun Belt last season are looking to do better than the NIT this season were led by their guards R.J Hunter and Ryan Harrow who had 21 and 12 respectively. Kevin Ware who landed at Georgia State after his horrific leg injury at Louisville was just 1-6 from the field and just four points.
