Game 1: George Washington 73 Virginia 68

16 Nov

Every time Virginia made a run, it was the home-standing Colonials that had an answer.   The Colonials had four players in double figures led by Tyler Cavanaugh and Patricio Garrino who both netted 15 in a 73-68 upset of #6 Virginia.

George Washington shot 45% and committed just 11 turnovers in the victory.  It was the Colonials effort on the interior on both ends of the floor from Cavanaugh and Kyle Larsen who added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Virginia, a team that historically plays a very slow pace was held to just 40% shooting despite getting a career high 28 points from All-American guard Malcolm Brogdon.  Anthony Gill and Mike Tobey combined for 21 points and 12 rebounds but no other Cavalier had more than five points in the loss.
